Kerala Tourism director Krishna Theja launched ‘Seethayanam’, a unique spiritual tourism product of Wayanad Tourism tracking the Ramayana Trail in the region, during the valedictory ceremony of the Business to Business (B2B) meet held here on Wednesday.
‘Seethayanam’ aims at promoting the sacred spots believed to be related to the jungle life of Seetha Devi in the district including the Seeta-Lava-Kusha temple, Tirunelli Temple, Valmeeki Ashram and The Sita Devi temple, Pulppalli weaving out a well-knit tourism circuit.
Addressing the gathering Krishna Theja said that if promoted ideally the initiative has a high potential to attract visitors worldwide.
Discerning tourists from North India can be attracted into the package as part of a larger Ramayana tourism network, he pointed out.
In the B2B meet more than 60 Gujarat based tour operators and other tourism players participated in which 40 stakeholders displayed their properties.
Farm trips and property visits also were held on Thursday in connection with the event. The three-day event would conclude on Friday. The B2B meet was organized by the Kerala Tourism as part of a post-COVID tourism promotion campaign which was hosted by Wayanad Tourism Organization in the district.
Sub Collector R Sreelakshmi and District Tourism Promotion Council secretary Ajesh KG, among others were present. WTO president KR Vancheeswaran presided over the function.
Going by the Ramayana related folklore abundant in the region the prominent Vishnu Temple at a Tirunelli is the place where Lord Rama came to learn about the demise of his father and also performed the last rites. Both Tirunelli and the neighboring Thrisslery temples here are known for the last rites to the departed souls. The Ashramam Kolli near Pulppalli is the place where the Sage Valmiki had his Ashram.
