Sree Padmanabhaswamy Temple during Equinox- Photos

Sree Padmanabhaswamy Temple in the capital city of Kerala Is considered to be world's richest temple, among the many amazing architectural features of Sree Padmanabhaswamy temple the tower at the temple's main entrance is one of the main attraction and it also called as ‘gopuram’. This ornate gopuram is an example of unique construction and architectural marvel.

The Gopuram has seven floors with a couple of window-like openings at the middle of each floor on its differing sides. On the exact two days of the Equinox; most probably on March 21st and September 23rd of every year, everyone visits the temple will get a chance to see the Setting Sun exactly aligned and passing through each of the window openings in almost five-minute intervals.

The great blend of Dravidian and traditional Kerala style architectural extravaganza can be enjoyed here at  Sree Padmanabhaswamy temple of Thiruvananthapuram. This temple in South India is a fine example of wonderful architecture that showcases some scientific truths.

The photographs captured by a freelance photographer from the capital city of Kerala Mr.Syed Shiyaz Mirza will narrate you the beauty of this architectural marvel. The photos show that The sun goes down along the middle portion of Gopuram of Sree Padmanabha Swamy Temple on equinox eve.

The temple is a glorious and stunning piece of architectural exquisiteness build with stone and bronze. You can also see ancient works of arts including wood carvings and mural paintings here. It is an absolute must-watch miracle and please try to be there on the next equinox evening. Note that this phenomenon will happen mostly on March 21st and September 23rd of every year. The photographer captured these visuals during March 2019; also the traditional Hindu festival of ‘Holi’ is celebrated during this period to mark the victory of good or light over evil or darkness.

The equinox is known to occur twice in an year once in spring and other in the autumn. When the earth’s axis is twisted or tilted neither towards the sun nor away from the sun ;during the equinox the tilt would be zero degrees in magnitude and due to this phenomenon the day and night durations are almost equal in these special days. The autumn equinox occurs on 22nd or 23rd of September while the spring equinox occur either on 20th or 21st of March.
