Nikon launched an entry-level full-frame mirrorless camera at an affordable price. Nikon Z5, an innovative full-frame mirrorless camera built around Nikon’s revolutionary Z mount. This Compact yet powerful camera comes with sophisticated features. Nikon claimed that the Z 5 delivers detailed imagery with precision autofocus. This camera is loaded with tools that let every photographer use their creativity with easiness. Nikon Z5 camera is powered by Nikon’s EXPEED 6 image processing system.
Nikon Z5 is a 24.3 megapixel FX (Full-frame) camera which comes with a CMOS sensor of 35.9 mm x 23.9 mm size. It offers ISO level from 100 to 51200. This camera offers a continuous still shooting speed of 4.7 frames per second. The Viewfinder of this camera is of EVF type and it is of 1.27-cm or 0.5-inch size and it offers 3690k-dot (Quad VGA) OLED viewfinder display with color balance and an 11 level manual brightness controls. This viewfinder gives approximate coverage of 100% in both horizontally and vertically. It also comes with a 3.2 inch tiltable TFT touchscreen review monitor with a resolution of 1,040,000 dots. There is an automatic provision offered to switch between monitor and viewfinder displays.
This camera comes with two card slots; and this is first in Z series. These slots support SD (Secure Digital) and UHS-II compliant SDHC and SDXC memory cards. With Nikon Z5 it is possible to record 4K videos and this camera supports video formats of 4K UHD (there will be crop factor of 1.7x while shooting 4K)3840x2160 / 30 fps, 4K UHD 3840x2160 / 25 fps,4K UHD 3840x2160 / 24 fps,Full HD 1920x1080 / 60 fps,Full HD 1920x1080 / 50 fps,Full HD 1920x1080 / 30 fps,Full HD 1920x1080 / 25 fps and Full HD 1920x1080 / 24 fps. It is also to b noted that Actual frame rates for 60p, 50p, 30p, 25p, and 24p are 59.94, 50, 29.97, 25, and 23.976 fps respectively.
The maximum video recording duration is 29 minutes 59 seconds. Nikon Z5 records movies in MOV and MP4 formats. Audio is recorded in Linear PCM and AAC along with the video. This camera supports external microphones and it offers attenuator option and sensitivity adjustment provision. Time code provision and Movie Highlight Display (Zebras) is available in movie recording modes. It also offers Timelapse recording Up to 4K UHD.
This camera supports NEF (RAW)-12 or 14 bit (lossless compressed or compressed), JPEG-compression, and NEF (RAW) + JPEG formats. Electronically-controlled vertical-travel focal-plane mechanical shutter, Electronic front-curtain shutter, and electronic shutter are the available shutter options available in this mirrorless camera. This camera offers shutter speed ranges from 1/8000 to 30 seconds. The silent mode operation of this camera is very useful in wildlife and recording in studios etc.
This camera employs a TTL metering using camera image sensor. Nikon Z5 offers Picture Controls like Auto, Flat, Landscape, Monochrome, Neutral, Portrait, Standard, and Vivid. Also, it offers Creative picture controls like Dream, Morning, Pop, Sunday, Somber, Dramatic, Silence, Bleached, Melancholic, Pure, Denim, Toy, Sepia, Blue, Red, Pink, Charcoal, Graphite, Binary and Carbon. There is also provision for modifying the picture control and to create custom picture controls. This Nikon camera also offers Active D-Lighting and Active D-lighting bracketing features.
Nikon Z5 comes with Hybrid phase-detection / contrast AF with AF assist autofocus system and it offers 273 focus points. It supports Autofocus (AF), Single-servo AF (AF-S), continuous-servo AF (AF-C), full-time AF (AF-F; this mode is available only in movie mode) and Manual focus (M) mode. It comes with the following AF area modes: Pinpoint, Single-Point, Dynamic-area AF, Wide-area AF (S), Wide-area AF (L), Auto-area AF. It is to be noted that Pinpoint and Dynamic-area AF are available in photo mode. This camera offers you to choose white balance or color temperature between 2,500 K and 10,000 K(K denotes Kelvin). It also comes with 3 types of Automatic White balance settings. Nikon Z5 also offers custom white balances like Cloudy, Shade, Direct sunlight, Flash, Fluorescent (7 types), and Incandescent. It offers Natural light auto white balance option and can store Preset white balance values manually (up to 6 values can be stored).
This camera comes with Wi-fi and low energy Bluetooth connectivity options. It also offers gadget connectivity with snabridge also can avail GPS through snapbridge. Nikon Z5 comes with an EN-EL15c rechargeable Li-ion battery which offers approximately 400 shorts per single charge and a movie recording duration up to two hours. This camera comes in a dimension of 5.3 in. (134 mm) width, 4.0 in. (100.5 mm) Hight and 2.8 in. (69.5 mm) thickness or depth. Its weight is only 590 grams without any lens. The expected price of the small sibling of the Nikon Z6 camera in India is around Rupees 1,00,000 and will be available on sales from August 2020 onwards.
